Artist Statement
My work articulates my persistent and acute disillusionment towards perceptive reality through the imaginative practice of design, a proclivity which I consider as a reconstructive record of visual memory. I form my concepts through the craft of drawing and subsequently refine these ideas through the use of diverse materials. As such, I am constantly experimenting with traditional and modern techniques to enhance my ability to fabricate unique objects of perception. This culminates in handmade acts of painting, drawing and sculpture, which have traditionally encrypted the record of complex and compelling mythos throughout human history. My style carries the spirit of the old masters as it is defined by the realistic depiction of the human body and its archetypal narratives. I transmogrify canonic bodies into metacontexts where they paradoxically interact with the totality of art history through mimesis and inquisition. Art imitates art, and my work perpetuates history through symbolic connection and stigmatized perspectives.

Francis Nguyen is an award winning Canadian artist, whose work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in private collections. Francis Nguyen has received an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and has studied extensively to perfect his craft in figurative realism. He has instructed privately as well as at the Art Students League. His work has been exhibited at venues such as Sotheby’s, the Salmagundi club, Forbes Galleries and the United Nations. His work has been featured in Veranda Magazine, and has received honorable mentions as finalist in The Art Renewal Center salon.
